We are developing an eco-tourism project in Szakácsi. Empty village houses are being converted into pleasant holiday homes with mostly their own private swimming pool. Szakácsi is a village ‘at the end of the road’ that is very suitable for tourism because of its location in the Cserehát.
Not far from Edelény for groceries from the supermarket and of course a visit to the newly renovated castle; not far from the Aggtelek Nemzeti Park with its fantastic caves and the wild herd of Hucul horses; between Eger with the red and Tokaj with the white wines. And then there is Miskolc with its cultural offer (Opera festival and Film festival) and the thermal cave pool in Miskolc-Tapolca. Walking trails along Szakácsi therefore an excellent starting point for a walking holiday. And you walk out of your spacious garden into the forest. There is little traffic so ideal for families with children.
The Cserehát is a beautiful region in the Northeast of Hungary, rolling landscape with alternating forests, farmland, small villages and itinerant shepherds with herds of sheep or cattle. Special birds and butterflies can be discovered here and game of course. You regularly come across deer, pheasants, wild boar, badgers and foxes on the road.
But the Cserehát is also a poor region, where only the underprivileged and the elderly have continued to live. Similarly in Szakácsi. In addition to two farming families who have a small-scale mixed farm, some single older women, Szakácsi mainly consists of young families with a Roma background.
We take care of the economic development of the village with tourist activity. Everyone benefits from it, the women who clean the houses, help in the kitchen, the men who take care of the maintenance of the gardens and the chopping of the wood.
The property currently consists of 4 holiday homes (21 beds) but there are plans to expand with a small hotel (10 rooms) with restaurant and a number of holiday homes. And that also means more employment for the local population.
